Gang,

Here is a VOA of Quaker State Ultimate Durability in 5w-20. This is the SN formula. I had Blackstone run the VOA twice because the first run had (what I considered) to be too many wear metals for a VOA. The re-test had a bit less and Blackstone explained this could have been picked up from storage of the oil in metal containers.

I plan to switch from Pennzoil Platinum in 5w-20 to Quaker State Ultimate Durability in 5w-20 in my Hyundai Azera based upon cost, reviews of Quaker State Ultimate Durability, and this VOA (which looks really good).

Weird how there was "too many wear metals" in the first analysis as well as a trace of insolubles in the Virgin oil. Does QS transport their oil in rusty old tin cans? What the...?

Should still work well but i personally prefer my virgin oils to be free of metal flakes. Just my preference.

Of course, this was my opinion. I did not expect to see any aluminum, iron, copper, lead, or silicon in a VOA. Blackstone swears they have seen this more than once and they assured me they rinsed the test unit thoroughly between my tests and others (I hope this is SOP and not on my request). I have been using Blackstone regularly so I **hope** I can trust the results.

Actually I asked because I have a jug of PP for my next fill then I will have near equal amounts of leftover Pennzoil Platinum and Quaker State Ultimate Durability for another fill so I was going to use both. I think it will mix nicely but looking for other opinions.

As explained before, iron is not mrcessarily be a wear metal, especially in a VOA, and is usually due to some anti-oxidants and rust inhibitors in the range of about 1-5 ppm.

There should always be some silicone for anti-foaming purposes.

Ask Blackstone how oils, with rust and corrosion inhibitors, could possibly rust a steel drum? This is non-sense.

They suggested iron may have become suspended by metal flaking from a drum caused by the bungs being screwed in and out by machines. It did seem lame to me, but I was less concerned about the iron as I was lead, copper, and aluminum.

Aluminum and copper and lead? Seems like the usual quality coming out of [censored]. Beats me why people don't use an ISO accredited lab like OAI/Polaris or JG, ones who also give oxidation and nitration. I'm grateful for those who take the time and money to do these, but I don't trust [censored] results. I'm looking at a few oils for the next few runs and I'll probably end up doing the baseline VOA myself with one of those labs even though we have them here from [censored]. This one stood out, but what about the used oil analysis that have shown higher wear metals because of sloppy work.

I used wearcheck once, and I think any future used oil analysis are going to be through Polaris. Thanks to Bruce though, for a few VOAs done on Maxlife 5w30 and castrol syntec 5w40 a while back.

One of the more interesting encounters was a guy on a motorcycle that followed me off of 183 all the way to the light at Lakeline, motioned me to roll down the window, and said "so you're burning E85 in that thing?" I said, "heck yeah, smell good back there?"... to which he smiled and responded "smells heavenly." After that, he took busted a u-turn and took off, haha.

I think I checked the Four Points Walmart last time (one on 620 on the way to Steiner) and Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5w20 wasn't available. I'll swing by the 620/Parmer one sometime this week and pick up a few bottles... this is for the gf's ride, not for godzilla!
